513 Anthem Contest | The Search for Cincinnati's Next Anthem
ANTHEMS AREN’T CREATED; THEY’RE CHOSEN BY THE PEOPLE.
When the pandemic hit, it quickly became clear that artists would face tough times ahead. We sought to develop a project that could help provide artists greater visibility and support while celebrating the city and our local music scene. We settled on the search for Cincy’s next anthem. Hometown anthems have the ability to connect, create joy, invoke pride, and bring communities together.
The Project: Cincy Nice and our 513 Anthem partners, set out to create something positive that the community could rally behind, that shines a light on local talent and provides artists relief funding. In May 2020, leading up to #513Day and during the height of quarantine and lockdown, we put out a call for artists to create an anthem that captured the spirit of our city. And our musician community more than answered.
All genres, styles, production-levels and abilities were welcomed. Collabs were encouraged. Home studios were lit.
In just two weeks, local artists created 60 original songs…. And their songs were played more than 50,000 times and voted on by nearly 8,000 folks! To top it all off, ArtsWave, Cincinnati’s philanthropic engine for the arts, stepped in to help us reach our Musician Fund goal of $5,130 to provide direct relief to artists. We were blown away.
