More Free 2020 | Sparking a Movement
OUR MISSION: CREATE AN ENERGIZED AND JOYFUL MOVEMENT THAT INSPIRES ENGAGEMENT IN THE 2020 ELECTION AND BEYOND.
Democracy requires participation. Seeing a lag in enthusiasm in the final weeks leading up America’s most consequential election in history, Cincy Nice quickly assembled a network of partners and launched More Free 2020, a non-partisan community platform and series of events that encouraged the people of our city to raise their voice and take action.
Designing a New Platform
More Free 2020 was created with the belief that civic engagement should be a joyful and celebratory occasion. For inspiration, we looked back to the Freedom Summer organizing efforts, and looked forward to the creativity of new national movements like the Wide Awakes and Lift Every Vote, and drew upon your words from Our Tables to forge a new path towards connection and action.
Activating Space
We opened a pop-up “HQ” for voter registration and information on OTR’s active Vine Street.. 1313 Vine quickly became a hub for activism and engagement with voter resources, a mutual aid center in partnership with Triiibe Foundation, and the home of Cincinnati’s first “free fridge,” a donation supported food drop for folks in need.
Engaging Community
From National Voter Registration Day to Election Day, More Free 2020 hosted 10+ civic events and activations, partnered with dozens of artists, activists, and community leaders, registered hundreds of voters, and inspired countless citizens to step off the sidelines and make their voices heard.
